Man sentenced to 15 months for assaulting, robbing TTC bus driver

TORONTO — The TTC says a 28-year-old man who assaulted and robbed a bus driver has been sentenced to 15 months in jail.

On Dec. 17 2014, Adedotun Agunbiade tried to grab a transfer from a TTC driver at Yonge and Queens Quay when the employee placed his hand over the transfers, the TTC said in a statement.

Agunbiade then allegedly punched the operator in the head and face and kicked him when he fell to the floor, before stealing his wallet and cell phone.

Toronto police identified the suspect with the help of surveillance footage obtained from the bus and Agunbiade was arrested and charged with assault causing bodily harm and robbery.

The TTC said he was sentenced to time served, plus an additional six months for each offence, and fined $400.

Agunbiade was also placed on probation for two years, and ordered to stay off TTC property and away from the victim.

On average, one TTC employee is assaulted every day, subjected to everything from punching, slapping and spitting, to threats of physical harm or death, according to the TTC.
