Former NHL player, Mike Richards is facing drug charges after a discovery by border guards at the Emerson, Manitoba crossing on June 17.
RCMP charged the 30-year-old with possession of a controlled substance. Richards, who is from Kenora, Ontario, was found in possession of oxycodone, a prescription pain killer, according to court documents. RCMP wouldn’t say how border guards allegedly discovered the drugs, saying the information will come out in court.
A court date is scheduled in Emerson on Thursday morning. Richards will not make a court appearance, but will be represented by counsel.
The L.A. Kings terminated Richards on June 29, saying he was in violation of his $69-million, 12-year contract.
