STARS responds to serious collision on Highway 15 near Fort Saskatchewan

EDMONTON – Highway 15 just northeast of Edmonton was closed for several hours Friday morning following a serious collision between a small SUV and pickup truck. It happened just after 6 a.m. just outside Fort Saskatchewan, at the intersection of Highway 15 and Rural Route 231.

Video from the Global 1 news helicopter showed a heavily-damaged black truck on the road, and a white SUV flipped on its roof in the ditch. Debris could be seen scattered across the highway.

STARS air ambulance flew one of the drivers to hospital in Edmonton with non-life threatening injuries.

That section of Highway 15 was closed while collision analysts investigated, and traffic was re-routed on to Highway 28A and Highway 37. The highway was re-opened just before noon.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
