KELOWNA — The Kelowna Falcons have had a lot of firsts this summer: it’s first time they ever had more than 30 wins in a season, first time they headed to the West Coast League (WCL) Championship and first time they appeared in the West Coast League (WCL) semi-final. The record-breaking play isn’t going unnoticed with three players receiving league honours.

Hunter Villaneuva has been named the WCL’s  Most Valuable Player (MVP).  Villaneauva has a .378 batting average and is the first Falcons player to be named MVP. Throughout the season,  he tallied 62 hits, 12 doubles, 7 homeruns and 33 RBIs.

Brady Miller is the WCL’s Pitcher of the Year.  During the regular season, Miller was perfect finishing with a team high 6-0 record. In seven starts, he threw 37 innings striking out 23 and allowed just nine earned runs.  His 2.19 ERA was among the WCL’s lowest for starting pitchers.

The WCL has also announced Billy Clontz is the Coach of the Year. Clontz has been instrumental in helping the Falcons more than double the team’s win total since last year.   A year ago, the Falcons finished with a league worst 14-39 record.  This season, Clontz and staff recorded 34 wins, setting a new team record.
