Greg Clark says no transparency in demolition of flooded Calgary homes

WATCH ABOVE: The province is moving forward with plans to tear down 49 homes hit hard by the 2013 floods, but not everyone is thrilled. Global’s Gary Bobrovitz reports.

CALGARY – Alberta Party Leader Greg Clark says there’s a “frightening” lack of transparency when it comes to demolishing flood damaged homes in Calgary and area.

Some 49 houses assessed through the Floodway Relocation Program have been earmarked for the wrecking ball, including a handful in the Elbow neighbourhood of Riverdale.

But Clark, who represents the riding in the legislature, says residents of the homes only found out after receiving a non-specific, non-personalized letter from the NDP government.

Clark says the lack of care from the government is only made worse by the fact that in the end, nothing long term has been sorted out.

Some of the houses slated for demolition have already been fully renovated and mitigated by the province.

Clark also says he wants to see the Notley government bring in a plan for flood mitigation.
