EDMONTON — Rocky Mountain House RCMP believe speed and alcohol were factors in a single-vehicle rollover Friday night that killed a 15-year-old passenger, and injured three others.

RCMP and EMS were called to the rollover at the intersection of Highway 752 and Township Road 384, about 16 kilometres southwest of Rocky Mountain House, around 10:45 p.m.

Officers said four people were in a vehicle heading north on Highway 752, also known as Cow Lake Road, when the driver lost control. RCMP said the vehicle left the road, rolled several times and ended up on its roof.

A 15-year-old girl who was a passenger in the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver, a 21-year-old man, was thrown from the vehicle. He was taken by STARS Air Ambulance to Foothills Hospital in Calgary where he remained in critical condition Saturday.

A 17-year-old girl was transported by STARS to Edmonton’s University of Alberta hospital where she is in serious, but stable condition.

A 19-year-old man was taken to a local hospital by ground ambulance. He has since been released.

The names of the people involved in the rollover will not be released in accordance with the federal Privacy Act, RCMP said.

RCMP said three of the four people inside the vehicle were not wearing seat belts when the vehicle rolled.

The investigation is ongoing and RCMP said charges are pending.
