Surrey wedding guest appears to give marijuana to horse

WATCH: A nine second video uploaded to Snapchat allegedly shows a man feeding a horse marijuana before it began acting strangely at a Sikh wedding in Surrey last weekend. In a separately shot video that was uploaded to YouTube, we see the same horse bucking off the groom outside a Surrey temple.

A wedding guest allegedly fed marijuana to a horse outside a Surrey temple on Saturday, an hour before the groom was thrown off it.

The groom, who was taking a ride on the horse an hour after the ceremony, was uninjured during the incident because he landed on soft grass.

But the horse’s handler, Zsa Zsa Stiasny of Equutrails, says this isn’t common behavior for “Misty.”

“She’s been at dozens of weddings. They never bother her. She loves doing weddings as a matter of fact. This is totally out of character for her,” she said.

Stiasny believes the incident might have been triggered because of marijuana in her system. A Snapchat video sent to Global News, allegedly from the event, shows a person going up to a horse, with the person filming saying “he’s going to feed the horse some weed.”

“He just gave the horse some weed!” he then says excitedly.

Stiasny also believes there may have been other reasons why the horse was in distress, including the groom’s shoes that were digging into the horse’s shoulders.

“He didn’t take his shoe off like I asked him,” said Stiansy.

“This could have caused the reaction. I trained her myself. She’s never been like this since I’ve owned her.”

Certified horse behavior consultant Lauren Fraser from Good Horsemanship watched the video of the horse bucking off the groom. She believes all the wedding excitement may have been too much for Misty to handle.

“What you’re looking at here is what we call trigger stacking, which is multiple things that the horse might be afraid of are getting stacked on the horse one after the other, until the horse can’t take it anymore,” says Fraser.

It is still unknown if the marijuana was one of the reasons the horse behaved this way.
