REGINA – Regina is set to get a new $22 million multi-purpose facility at Evraz Place after a funding announcement Thursday morning.

The 150,000 square foot facility will be built through a cost sharing partnership between federal, provincial and municipal governments.

“Both Agribition and Farm Progress are institutions here in Regina, and major contributors to the Saskatchewan economy,” Federal Agriculture Minister Gerry Ritz said.

“This investment provides a world-class venue that will draw international visitors to Saskatchewan to get a firsthand look at Canada’s dynamic agriculture industry.”

The goal is to enhance the stature of agricultural events like Canadian Western Agribition and Canada’s Farm Progress Show, but the facility is also expected to attract other large consumer trade shows.

“I am very proud of council for starting the work on this project, along with our team at Evraz Place,” Mayor Michael Fougere said.

“As a city-owned facility, this venue will help increase the profile of Evraz Place and offer a lot more possibilities for events.”

Construction on the project is expected to get underway in November 2015, pending approval from Regina’s City Council.

If approved, the new facility should be completed by November 2017.
