MONTREAL-WEST – When Paula Malolepszy was getting ready for this year’s Canada Day festivities, she didn’t know she was in for the surprise of her lifetime.
Canada Day celebrations at Strathearn Park in Montreal West were under way July 2 – one day later than planned because of the rain – when her boyfriend, Mark Przybylowski, hopped on stage and grabbed the microphone.
It was the couple’s one-year anniversary and Malolepszy didn’t see what was to come.
“I wake up every day with my soul mate,” said Przybylowski.
“We laugh all day together. You’re the funniest, most beautiful, smartest, kindest, hottest woman I’ve met in my life.”
As the crowd of hundreds of Montreal-Westers cheered on – and in the presence of the town’s mayor Beny Masella – Przybylowski got down on one knee.

“So, I have one question to ask you in front of the hundreds in attendance and the millions watching on TV,” he continued.
“Paula, on our one-year anniversary, will you marry me?”
Malolepszy, of course, replied with an enthusiastic “yes.”
“It was a day I will never forget,” said Przybylowski.
