West Vancouver Police say a man has been arrested following arson at two high-end homes.

On July 6, police were called to the 2600-block of Bellevue Avenue just after 4 a.m. and worked to extinguish a fire at the first home. The flames then spread to a second home and crews from three departments and a fire boat were called in to help. Homes around the fire were temporarily evacuated.

A 63-year-old man was arrested Wednesday while providing a statement in relation to the fire.

His arrest stemmed from another ongoing unrelated inquiry.

Investigators will now recommend a charge of public mischief against the man. He has been released on a promise to appear in North Vancouver court on Aug. 26.

The investigation into the fire is ongoing as the West Vancouver Police Department continues to liaise with the Fire Department and other specialist  fire investigators.
