A search is still underway for two hikers missing near Keremeos.

Lynne Carmody and Rick Moynan, both between 50 and 60 years old, were last seen when they left for a hike on Monday around 10 a.m. They left from an upper camp, about 6800 ft above sea level.

The pair were due to be back by dinner but have not been seen since. Staff at the lodge where they are staying called Keremeos RCMP at 8:36 p.m. to report them missing after conducting a brief search themselves.

Search and Rescue crews were activated immediately and began their search on Tuesday by foot, vehicle and air. The search is concentrated west of Keremeos in Cathedral Lakes Provincial Park, which is very rugged and steep terrain.

Rob Braun, manager for Central Okanagan Search and Rescue, said there are 21 members currently involved in the search from four different teams (Pentiction, Osoyoos, Keremeos and Princeton).

Teams from Hope and the Nicola Valley are coming to help.

Two helicopters are also assisting, along with a B.C. parks ranger and a police dog.

Braun said they are not focusing on well-travelled trails as they believe the couple would have been found by now. There were 30 other hikers in the area yesterday and they did not see the missing duo.

Crews are now checking lesser-known trails closer to where Carmody and Moynan were last seen.
