UPDATED: ‘He was always happy’: Regina’s fifth homicide victim killed by brother

REGINA – Regina police have charged a 36-year-old man in connection to Regina’s fifth homicide.

On Monday morning police were called to the 900 block of Athol Street. They found Trent Mark Pascal with serious injuries – he was transported to hospital by EMS where he was pronounced dead.

After an investigation police arrested 36-year-old Steven Blaine Pascal and charged him with Second Degree Murder.

Gary Johns is the victim’s cousin and said he’s in disbelief that the accused killer is Trent’s own brother.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

He wants Pascal to be remembered for who he was and not the circumstances that lead to his death.

“He was always happy, always had a smile and always joking,” he said Tuesday.  “(He was) just a really good man.”

Johns said the 22-year-old was a good father and was just getting his life on track.

“He was going to school with me.  He was raising his family and sober for over a year. He just wanted to do good with his life.”

Some of those who live in the area said they often see police responding to crimes in the area, but would never expect something like this to happen on their block.

A little scared,” explained one neighbour.  “When it’s close to home, it hits you hard.”

Steven Pascal made his first court appearance on Tuesday morning.  The case was adjourned and he’ll be back in court on June ninth.

If anyone has any information that may help police they are asked to call 306-777-6500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
