WATCH: Great Dane ‘sings’ alongside owner at events for U.S. veterans

TORONTO – As duets go, this one is a little on the strange side.

But there’s no denying the patriotic appeal – not to mention the simple curiosity –  of being “sung to” by a 125-pound, American flag-wearing Great Dane.

Her name is Belle, and she’s become a minor celebrity after accompanying her owner, Moe Disney-Griffitts, to singing events for U.S. veterans and active service personnel.

“She was a puppy and just would follow me to my little studio at home, and instead of jumping up and down and making a fuss she started humming along and whining along,” Griffitts told KCWY-13 News.

“Before we knew it, we had her singing along with me every time I sang.”

This past Saturday, Belle and Disney-Griffitts sang at the Freedom Ride in Gillette, Wyoming, with Belle helping out on such patriotic classics as “God Bless America”.

And what she lacks in tone and pitch, Belle certainly makes up for in enthusiasm, howling and yelping right alongside her owner.

But it’s hardly the first time the patriotic pooch has been caught on camera warbling a tune. Multiple videos posted to Disney-Griffitts’ Facebook page show Belle in action, singing along to tunes like “Amazing Grace.”

As far as her owner is concerned, Belle is just doing her part to honour the nation’s four-legged veterans.

“While I sing for our fallen heroes, she sings along for the canine fallen heroes,” Disney-Griffitts said.
