CALGARY – A Red Deer man has been sentenced to two months behind bars after being convicted of attempted human smuggling.
The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) says officers found a female concealed in Mark Brian Abramenko’s vehicle at the Carway border crossing on October 26th, 2013.
The woman was huddled on the floor hidden under a blanket.
Officers say she had previously been refused entry into Canada “due to criminality.”
A provincial court judge sentenced Abramenko to 60 days in jail. He was also given a $5,000 fine.
Anyone with information about suspicious cross-border activity is asked to call the CBSA toll-free at 1-888-502-9060. All calls are confidential.
