Man says bank robbery wasn’t a crime because he said ‘Please’ first

TORONTO – The simple act of saying “Please” and “Thank You” can get you a lot in life.

Unfortunately for one man, it likely won’t get you out of a robbery charge.

Twenty-three-year-old Dominyk Antonio Alfonseca is accused of stealing $150,000 from a TowneBank in Virginia Beach, Virginia this past Monday.

But Alfonseca says he doesn’t consider what he did to be theft, since he used the world “Please” in the note he slid to the teller during the hold-up.

“I decided to go to the bank. She gave me money, and I left,” Alfonseca told WAVY.com during a jailhouse interview Wednesday.

The full text of his note reads as follows: “I need 150,000 Bonds (dollars) Right Now!! Please Police take 3 to 5 minutes to get here, I would appreciate if you Ring the alarm a minute after I am gone… make sure the money doesn’t BLOW UP ON MY WAY OUT :)”

“A robbery is going in and demanding something and taking the money,” Alfonseca said. “I didn’t do that.”

The note is only part of a bizarre crime during which Alfonseca posted videos to his Instagram account, including one of the teller loading wads of cash into a black gym bag.

“I posted the video on my Instagram,” Alfonseca said. “I videotaped it. If it was a robbery, I don’t think I would videotape it, post the picture of the letter and do that all to come to jail.”

An aspiring rapper who moved to Virginia from California only two weeks ago, Alfonseca laughed when asked by local media if he had staged his heist to attract attention or notoriety to his Instagram account.

“Maybe my Instagram is under exposure,” he said. “A lot of exposure. There are a lot of things on my Instagram that have nothing to do with what happened.”

Police say they apprehended Alfonseca along with the bag of stolen money 20 minutes after the robbery.

But he’s confident that he’ll be found innocent of all charges.

“Police told me, ‘we are just doing our job,’ and I don’t think they even believe there was a crime.”
