WINNIPEG — With the Winnipeg Blue Bombers well over their training camp limit, they released 12 players on Thursday.

They released four receivers in Justin Wilson, Derrick Hector, Lavon Downs and Kashif Montgomery. Four defensive backs are also now looking for work with Keon Lyn, Sam Miller, David Van Dyke and Jarrid Bryant all released. Defensive linemen Greg Hickman and Justin Oxendine were also axed as were linebackers C.J. Wilson and Shamari Benton.

Only Hickman and Wilson have appeared in a game with the Bombers with the rest of the cuts signed during the off-season. Wilson played one game in the blue and gold, making three catches for only 24 yards against the B.C. Lions. Hickman was signed in September and recorded three defensive tackles and one sack in limited playing time. Most of the cuts attended the Bombers recent mini-camp in Florida.

The Bombers also announcing the signing of defensive back Ryan Steed, who was recently cut loose by the Saskatchewan Roughriders. Steed also spent time with the Calgary Stampeders in 2014. Prior to coming to the CFL, Steed had NFL opportunities with the New Orleans Saints, New York Jets and the Pittsburgh Steelers.
