WINNIPEG – DNA matching has led Winnipeg police to arrest a 15-year-old boy for allegedly sexually assaulting a 43-year-old woman last fall.
A woman was walking south on Ellen Street near Notre Dame Avenue around 10 p.m. on Oct. 12, when she was grabbed by an armed teen.

She was pulled behind a nearby commercial building and seriously sexually assaulted, police said.
Forensic exhibits seized at the time of the incident were sent for DNA testing. A male profile was obtained and police got a DNA warrant for a previously identified suspect. He was located and a sample of his DNA was collected on March 6.
Testing revealed a DNA match.

The teen, who was 14 years old at the time of the assault, was arrested on April 23.
He was charged with sexual assault with a weapon for his alleged involvement and detained in custody.
