Woman discovers birth mom works with her

TORONTO – A woman on the search for her biological mother was shocked this week when she discovered they work together.

Thirty-eight-year-old La-Sonya Mitchell-Clark from Youngstown, Ohio learned her birth mother’s name, Francine Simmons, after records were released by the Ohio Department of Health.

When Mitchell-Clark found Simmons’ profile on Facebook she noticed they work for the same company. She reached out to her and a day later the two made contact.

“She called me and I said, ‘Is this Ms. Francine?’ She said, ‘yes.’ I said, ‘I think I’m your daughter’,” Mitchell-Clark told WYTV.

Simmons was also shocked over the discovery.

“I got pregnant when I was 14. I had her when I was 15. I was put in a home, a girl’s home. Had her. Got to hold her. Didn’t get to name her, but I named her myself in my heart all these years,” Simmons told WYTV.

Mitchell-Clark also learned she has three sisters, one of which works with her as well, and that she and Simmons only live six minutes away from each other.

“Now we’ve got a bigger extended family where we can just be together,” Simmons told WYTV.
