LETHBRIDGE- One of two men accused in an armed robbery at a Subway restaurant will spend three years behind bars.
Chad William Hanson admitted to driving the getaway vehicle during a robbery on November 17 at a Subway restaurant on Mayor Magrath Drive.
He was originally charged with armed robbery, but pleaded guilty Friday morning to a lesser charge of robbery.
Through joint submission by the defence and crown, Hanson will spend three years in a federal penitentiary. He will also submit a DNA sample, and a weapons prohibition was put in place.
Hanson’s lawyer said he was dealing with an addiction problem at the time, and he didn’t realize his co-accused had a sod-off shotgun with him.
Hanson is from British Columbia and the court has put in a recommendation that he be able to serve his three-year sentence closer to his family in that province.
His co-accused, Nicolas Funk, will be back in court May 21.
