MONTREAL — Officers from the Roussillon police force were involved in a lengthy police chase early Friday morning.

It started in Delson on the south shore just before 5 a.m. and ended across the St. Lawrence River in LaSalle.

Police said they suspected the man was involved in an assault case they were investigating and tried to detain him.

He refused to cooperate and instead raced along Route 132, travelling across the St. Lawrence on the Mercier Bridge before being stopped at the corner of Centrale and Orchard Streets in LaSalle.

Peacekeepers from Kahnawake assisted their colleagues from the Roussillon force.

Roussillon is a municipality in the Montérégie region of Quebec.
