Lake Country – If the first day of advance polling is an indication, Lake Country voters are keen to register their opinion on the proposed purchase of the abandoned CN Rail corrider.
Day one of the Lake Country Okanagan Rail Corridor borrowing referendum saw 1053 votes cast.
“Our first advanced voting day generated a lot of interest,” says Chief Electoral Officer Reyna Seabrook in a news release. “There was a pretty steady stream of voters all day and we had 11 per cent of all eligible voters turn out.”
Eligible electors can vote at either an advance poll or on General Voting Day.
The next voting opportunities are as follows:
• Thursday, April 16 (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
Oyama Community Hall
• Friday, April 17 (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
Carr’s Landing Fire Hall
• Monday, April 20 (10 a.m. – 7 p.m.)
Okanagan Centre Community Hall
• Tuesday, April 21 (8 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
Municipal Hall
General Voting Day
• Saturday April 25 (8 a.m. – 8 p.m.)
George Elliot Secondary School, Community Gym
The district is seeking approval to borrow $2.6 million to help fund its share of the proposed $22 million purchase to turn the old rail line into a recreational corridor.
“Eligible electors can vote at any poll, not just the one in their ward, so plan your time to come out and vote for this important community-shaping project,” says Seabrook.
