One person killed in multi-vehicle crash near Cochrane

CALGARY – One person was killed and five others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash west of Calgary on Wednesday.

The collision on Highway 22 happened near the intersection with Township Road 250 around 7:30 a.m.

According to RCMP, several southbound vehicles had stopped on Highway 22 while waiting to turn left onto Township Road 250, when another southbound vehicle collided with the queue.

It sent one vehicle directly into the path of a northbound Prius; the driver was ejected and pronounced dead at the scene.

EMS transported five people to hospital, including:

  • A man in his mid-20’s in stable, non-life-threatening condition
  • A man in his early 70’s in stable, non-life-threatening condition
  • A woman in her early 30’s in stable, non-life-threatening condition
  • Two toddlers in stable, non-life-threatening condition

Paramedics also assessed a man in his 60’s, but determined he wasn’t injured.

The collision closed Highway 22 in both directions north of Highway 1 for several hours.
