WATCH: Colorado woman gets $43M tax bill from IRS

A history professor in Lakewood, Colo., couldn’t believe her eyes when she recently logged into the IRS website to make a payment.

“I had a little bit of back taxes. A small amount,” Joyce Buckland explained to CBS. “And I went in to do this payment, and my statement said I owed over $43 million dollars!”

Financial news and insights delivered to your email every Saturday.

The exact amount was $43,547,212.73 including just under $1 million in service fees.

After realizing that her eyes were not playing tricks on her, she called the IRS. She was told that it was likely a computer glitch.

“I know there had to be obviously some kind of crazy going on, because I mean, who owes that kind of taxes? I bet Donald Trump doesn’t even pay that much money, you know?” she said.

Buckland was told that once she made her intended original payment, her account should be rectified, but said she would rather not acknowledge the $43 million as her debt.

She said she plans to go to the IRS in person to sort out her account.
