WATCH: North Shore residents warned about possible cougar sightings

WATCH: RCMP and conservation officers are warning North Shore residents to be on the lookout for a cougar. Jeremy Hunka reports.

Residents living on the North Shore are being warned this morning to be on the lookout for a cougar.

Several sightings have been reported in the past week.

A resident snapped a picture of a cougar prowling through his backyard on Saturday.

Conservation officers say the cat likely climbed through the nearby Lynn Headwaters regional park, lured by domestic pets.

“It looks like the cougar was hunting in their backyard,” Conservation officer Simon Gravel told Global News. “When they come close to a residential area and start hunting in the backyard, there is definitely some safety concern.”

Residents are being urged to keep a close eye on small children and pets.
