Saskatchewan passes Alberta for non U.S. exports

REGINA – For the first time ever Saskatchewan has surpassed Alberta in non-U.S. exports.

In 2014 Saskatchewan’s total exports to countries other than the USA were $12.6 billion, surpassing the $11.9 billion Alberta posted in 2014.

Non-U.S. exports accounted for 36 per cent of total exports for Saskatchewan in 2014, compared to Alberta at 10 per cent.

“We have an amazing export market here in Saskatchewan that has been making steady gains since 2007,” Trade Minister Jeremy Harrison said.

“This is a significant achievement and demonstrates the diversity and strength of our economy.”

In 2014 Saskatchewan’s total exports were a record $35.1 billion, and it was the third consecutive year the province has set an all time record for exports.
