WATCH: North Vancouver’s Butter Lane Bake Shop says it’s being forced to close down in days over a size dispute. Catherine Urquhart explains.
It’s less than a year old, but North Vancouver’s Butter Lane Bake Shop & Tea House has already made a strong impression in Lynn Valley.
“Baking in my passion. I’ve always been a huge baker,” says Amy Symonds, who started the business with her daughter in May 2014.
However, Symonds has been ordered to vacate the property within five days. The landlord claims that she owes more than $20,000 in rent and that Symonds has been shortchanging her monthly payments.
She disputes the square footage the landlord is using to calculate the rent, saying it was professionally measured when she moved in.
“I’m going to contact a lawyer and find out my rights,” she said. “Have a company do a legitimate measurement of the property.”
Symonds’ landlord did not respond to a request for comment by Global News.
