TORONTO – Security cameras captured the moment a would-be robber tried to mug an 84-year-old Oklahoma man and his wife.

But after just a few moments, the thief quickly realizes he may have bitten off more than he can chew.

Eighty-four-year-old Doug Jandebeur was leaving his business in Tulsa, Oklahoma Monday night when a man approached him from behind.

“The guy starts saying, ‘Don’t turn around, don’t turn around,'” Jandebeur told KOTV News in Oklahoma.

Jandebeur told reporters that at first, he assumed the mugger was just one of his friends playing a prank on him.

That’s when the robber struck the 84-year-old in the face.

“I felt him take my billfold out, and [then] he heads over to the door where my wife was,” said Jandebeur.

Security camera footage shows the man leaving Jandebeur and heading towards the front of the building, with Jandebeur’s wife inside.

But Jandebeur had seen enough – and pulled out the pistol he was carrying in his left pocket.

“I pulled out my automatic and was getting ready to ventilate him,” Jandebeur said. “Once he saw my gun he decided to leave.”

Newly installed security cameras at the nearby Video Revolution captured the whole incident, as well as earlier footage showing the man casing out the parking lot and waiting for Jandebeur to leave his business.

Aside from a bit of bruising, Jandebeur says he’s ok. Police in Tulsa are encouraging anyone who recognizes the suspect to come forward to police.
