A Westside home has been hit twice with home invasions.

Police said over the past few weeks a residence located in the 3700-block of West 26th Avenue has been the target of two home invasions where suspects have not gotten their intended mark, but instead victimized the other tenants.

The first home invasion on March 2 was carried out by three men, one armed with a gun. The trio of robbers knocked on the door and wanted to see a person, who was not at home at the time and instead, ordered the resident to hand over his valuables. The suspects then went through the home, stealing whatever items they could find and fleeing in a red Acura, according to Vancouver Police Sgt. Randy Fincham.

The second incident happened on March 16 just before 5 p.m when two men with knives forced their way into the same home. As in the first incident, the intended person was not at home. The tenant who opened the door was robbed and bound. The pair of suspects ran out the back of the home into a grey minivan or sport utility vehicle.

Fincham said the men have mistakenly believed that one of the tenants of the home has significant wealth, which is not the case. Instead, the suspects’ actions are putting other people’s lives at risk. Since the two home invasion incidents, police are increasing patrols in the area.

The suspects in both cases were described as being a mix of Caucasian and darker-skinned men in their late teens or early 20s, around 6′ tall and wearing dark-coloured clothing.

Police said the intended target has no criminal connection.

Anyone with information about these incidents is asked to call the VPD Major Crime section or Crime Stoppers
