Police say fire at Courtenay home was arson and suspects known to police

VANCOUVER – Police say a fire at a Courtenay home on March 16 was arson and the suspects are known to them.

The Comox Valley RCMP and Fire Department were called to  the home in the 4600 block of Headquarters Road at about 11:51 p.m. The house was engulfed in flames and the neighbouring homes were evacuated for safety reasons.

No one was hurt but police say they are now looking for those responsible. The evidence suggests this was a targeted act.

“This crime put the occupant of this home in significant danger, as well as the numerous emergency personnel who responded,” said S/Sgt. Kevin Mazur, commander of the Comox Valley RCMP General Investigation Section. “This is a priority investigation for the Comox Valley RCMP, with a team of dedicated officers working to identify and apprehend those responsible.”
