TORONTO – Power is being restored to thousands of hydro customers in the Greater Toronto Area Tuesday morning following Monday night’s rain.

Toronto Hydro reported a number of transformer fires caused by the build up of salt on the hydro wires.

At one point, close to 3,000 customers across Toronto were left in the dark.

Hydro officials say just a few dozen customers are still affected.

In Vaughan, close to one-thousand Powerstream customers were without electricity early Tuesday but power was restored by 6 a.m.

However, around 8,000 customers in Barrie are without power but full restoration is expected by 8 or 9 a.m.
