Canada’s Jennifer Jones takes out undefeated Russia

SAPPORO, Japan – Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones is in a tie for first place after beating undefeated Russia 7-5 at the women’s world curling championship Monday.

Canada stole a point in the opening end and another in the fifth before Jones sealed the victory by drawing to the button in the final end.

The win draws Canada into a first-place tie with Russia and Switzerland with 4-1 records.

The defending Olympic champion again received a good performance from lead Dawn McEwen, who shot 86 per cent.

In other Draw 6 action, Sweden beat Denmark 7-5, Norway slipped past Scotland 8-7 and Japan defeated Finland 7-5.

Canada’s next match is against the U.S. on Tuesday.
