Canada’s Jones rebounds with win over China

SAPPORO, Japan – Canada rebounded from its first loss at the women’s world curling championship with a 7-1 rout of China on Monday.

Winnipeg’s Jennifer Jones scored a deuce in the third end and then added singles in four of the next five to improve the Canadians’ record to 3-1. The two countries didn’t play the final two ends.

The Chinese had entered the match undefeated and now also have a 3-1 record.

The defending Olympic champion got a good performance from lead Dawn McEwen, who shot 88 per cent.

China’s skip Sijia Liu countered by shooting 74 per cent, with its only scoring coming in the sixth end.

In other draw six action, Scotland beat the United States 9-2, Denmark slipped past Switzerland 8-7 and Germany downed Finland 7-5.

Canada will get a break before facing Russia in draw eight.
