CALGARY – The province says the number of new care beds for seniors it’s creating is even more than originally projected.

On Thursday, Seniors Minister Jeff Johnson announced the government is on track to provide more than 2,600 new spaces, as opposed to the 1,500 it had originally promised last fall.

“We’ve exceeded our original target by working with dedicated community partners to find new ways to deliver more spaces,” said Johnson.

Of the new spaces, almost 400 will be allocated for long-term care. Also included are the 311 restorative care spaces for Edmonton and Calgary which were announced on March 11.
