Three shootings in Surrey in less than 24 hours connected and targeted: RCMP

Surrey RCMP Serious Crime unit is investigating three shootings that happened in a 19-hour time frame. All of the shootings, which left two people injured, are believed to be targeted and linked to one another, according to police.

The first shooting happened on March 10 at 4 a.m. and involved a 20-year-old male being dropped off at a local hospital after suffering gunshot injuries. Surrey RCMP spoke to the victim and investigators continued to gather information about the incident.

At the time, police were unable to find out how the man was shot. The victim was treated and later released from hospital.

Later the same day at 5:50 p.m. police found a vehicle that had been involved in a shooting. Thinking the vehicle may have been involved in the earlier shooting, police seized the vehicle.

A little more than an hour later Surrey RCMP was notified by the BC Ambulance Service that they were heading to a shooting with a male victim near 127th Street and 78 Avenue. The victim, a 20-year-old Surrey man, was taken to a local hospital for treatment and later released.

Later that night at 11 p.m., Surrey RCMP had several reports of gunshots being heard near the area of 128th Street and 76 Avenue. When police arrived on the scene they were told by witnesses that four dark coloured vehicles were seen leaving the area following the gunshots.

Believing the three shootings were targeted and connected to one another, the Surrey Serious Crime investigators are reviewing files and gathering information to develop a profile. Along with the crime unit, the Forensic Investigation Unit is sifting through evidence gathered to get evidence to send to the lab for further analysis.

The Surrey RCMP Gang Enforcement Team has also been brought in to determine whether these incidents have any ties to gang activity.

Surrey RCMP Sgt. Dale Carr said in a statement this type of activity is “deeply concerning” and is urging anyone with information about any of these shootings to come forward.
