ESTEVAN, Sask. – The town of Estevan is mourning the loss of a long-serving fire captain and a well-known member of the community.
Neil Kish, 39, worked with Estevan Fire Rescue for the past 18 years.
“He’s one of those guys with a unique personality that he was fun to be around and there’s no other way to put it,” said Shane Code, Fire Chief with Estevan Fire Rescue. “He loved music and movies. He was a captain and a leader in the department and we’re surely going to miss him.”
Code said Kish was not feeling well on Tuesday, and died suddenly at home on Wednesday.
“It’s been a very difficult week for Estevan, the firefighters, and the people that knew him and loved him.”
St. John the Baptist Church in Estevan was packed for a funeral service Monday morning. Code hopes Estevan can now hold a celebration of life.
Kish is survived by his parents, his sister and his wife.
