Hearing set for Sask. nurse who stole narcotics from Lanigan Hospital

SASKATOON – A nurse convicted of stealing narcotics from a Saskatchewan hospital she worked at is expected to go before a disciplinary committee. The hearing is scheduled to take place Thursday.

Documents on the Saskatchewan Association of Licensed Practical Nurses’ website show Carolyn Bartel was found guilty on Feb. 2 in provincial court of stealing 25 tablets of Dilaudid and 18 vials of injectable morphine.

The theft from Lanigan Hospital did not exceed $5,000 and occurred in or around June 2014.

If found guilty of professional misconduct, the committee could expel her from the association, suspend her or issue a fine not exceeding $5,000.

The Saskatoon Health Region declined to comment on the case and would not confirm if Bartel is still working or if she has been suspended with or without pay.

Lanigan is approximately 115 kilometres east of Saskatoon.
