MONTREAL — A boil water advisory has been put in effect in parts of Vaudreuil-Dorion.

Residents are being told to boil tap water for at least three minutes before consumption.

The warning comes after a major water main break on Friday.

What areas are affected?

The boil water advisory is in effect for the Dorion sector of Vaudreuil.

City officials have published a list of streets affected by the boil water advisory, which are listed below in alphabetical order.

How long will it last?

City officials are saying that the boil water advisory is expected to last for a minimum of three days. It started on March 6.

Can I take a shower?

Residents affected by the water advisory can use tap water to:

  • wash dishes
  • wash clothing
  • take showers and baths

What about food preparation?

Residents affected by the water advisory may use boiled tap water to:

  • make drinks (tea, coffee, concentrated fruit juice, cocktails, Kool-Aid)
  • brush teeth
  • prepare bottles and baby food
  • prepare food (soups, rice, pasta, JELL-O)
  • make ice cubes

Remember to discard all ice cubes, drinks and food prepared using tap water since March 6 (and don’t forget the water tanks in refrigerators).

What happens if I accidentally drink the water?

In a few words: quite likely nothing.

If a person managed to drink a significant amount of affected water, possible side effects could include diarrhea and vomiting.
