KELOWNA – The City of Kelowna plans to spend $90 million this year on civic construction projects.
They include new amenities and upgrades to existing infrastructure and parks.
The major projects include a new downtown parkade and the expansion of an existing parkade, upgrades to the Queensway transit hub, completion of Phase 2 of Stuart Park and upgrades to Lakeshore Road in the Mission neighbourhood.
As well, more than 18 kilometres of roads will be re-surfaced with pavement.
“It takes a lot of coordination to get close to 100 projects all going in the right direction,” said Infrastructure Director Alan Newcombe in a news release. “And we are always grateful for the patience and understanding our residents and businesses show for the crews doing the work.”
The city is spending about $10 million less than last year on construction projects, partly to avoid a bigger increase in property taxes for 2015.
