Edmonton woman assaulted, suspect gets away

EDMONTON — Edmonton police are searching for a male suspect after a woman was attacked in north Edmonton Wednesday night.

Police say the woman was walking through an apartment complex parking lot in the area of 118 Avenue and 102 Street when she was attacked by a man she did not know.

The woman and attacker briefly struggled, the woman yelled for help, and the suspect fled the scene.

The suspect is described as an aboriginal male, 5’8″, medium build, with clean-cut and short hair, in his mid-30s, and dressed in dark clothing.

“The Sexual Assault Section is examining the reported details in this assault due to a recent sexual assault approximately 24 hours earlier in the same vicinity,” says Staff Sergeant Shawna Grimes.

“However, at this time we have not established a clear link between these two events.”

Grimes is referring to the sexual assault of a 21-year-old woman Tuesday night in the area of 101 Street and 128 Avenue.

The man reportedly grabbed the woman, produced a weapon, dragged her into a nearby alley and sexually assaulted her. He ran away before police arrived.

The suspect in that incident is described as an aboriginal man of average height, weighing about 160 pounds. It’s believed he’s in his mid-20s and was dressed in dark clothes.
