Water main break sparks slowdowns on Glenmore Trail

CALGARY – Drivers using Glenmore Trail may have to struggle through a sluggish commute on Friday.

City officials have closed down the westbound lanes of Glenmore Trail S.E. east of Ogden Road S.E. to repair a broken water main.

As a result, the eastbound lanes of Glenmore Trail have been reduced to one lane in each direction, causing slowdowns in the area.

City officials say the the water main was originally damaged mid-morning on Thursday when a contractor struck a 12 inch cast iron pipe while doing horizontal drilling in the area. The incident led to the road’s closure around 12:30 p.m.

Crews are working to fix the water main, but say the damage is considerable. As such, westbound lanes of Glenmore Trail S.E. are expected to remain closed throughout the day.
