HALIFAX – The city’s enforcement of the overnight parking ban is close to double the enforcement required last year.
Halifax issued another parking ban advisory Sunday morning: it will be in effect overnight Sunday to Monday, from 1 a.m. to 6 a.m. Including Sunday night’s parking ban the city has enforced the ban 23 times this winter, compared with 14 times last winter, said Jennifer Stairs, a spokesperson for the Halifax Regional Municipality.
On some streets the ice pack is as thick as 20 cm. In Cole Harbour, on Autumn Place, cars had to drive through a two-metre slush puddle formed by the ice pack.
The city said it has brought in additional equipment to help remove the ice on streets that have deep ruts and potholes in the ice pack. Streets like Clifton and Charles, in Halifax, were both cleared overnight on Saturday.
In a press release, the city again warned residents that cars can be ticketed and towed, day or night, if they are parked “in a manner that interferes with snow clearing.”
