Blades snap four-game skid with 6-2 win over Broncos

SASKATOON – Cameron Hebig and Brett Stovin each struck twice as the Saskatoon Blades beat the Swift Current Broncos 6-2 to halt a four-game skid. Sam McKechnie and Kolton Dixon also scored for Saskatoon (18-39-4) as Brock Hamm turned away 46-of-48 shots for the win.

Colby Cave and Glenn Gawdin supplied the offence for the Broncos (30-26-5). Landon Bow gave up three goals on 11 shots and found himself on the bench to start the second period. Travis Child made 21 saves in 40 minutes of relief.

The Blades head to Moose Jaw on Friday to take on the Warriors.

In Regina, Jaedon Descheneau scored once in regulation and added the shootout winner as the Kootenay Ice slipped past the Regain Pats 5-4. River Beattie, Tim Bozon and Sam Reinhart also scored for the Ice (32-27-3) while Wyatt Hoflin stopped 32 shots for the win.

Taylor Cooper led Regina (33-19-8) with a goal and two assists. Sam Steel and Connor Hobbs also scored for the Pats, who got a 37-save performance from Daniel Wapple.

Hitmen 5 Winterhawks 4

PORTLAND, Ore. – Jake Bean scored 1:36 into overtime as the Calgary Hitmen extended their win streak to six games with a 5-4 victory over the Portland Winterhawks. Ben Thomas, Adam Tambellini, Jake Virtanen and Kenton Helgesen also scored for the Hitmen (38-18-5), who erased a 4-1 deficit to pick up the two points.

Oliver Bjorkstrand scored in his 10th straight game for the Winterhawks (36-20-5) and added two assists. Adam Henry, Chase De Leo and Layne Viveiros rounded out the attack.

Mack Shields earned the win for Calgary by stopping all 22 shots he faced in 36:52 of relief. Shields replaced starter Brendan Burke, who allowed four goals on 22 shots. Evan Johnson made 33 saves for Portland.

The Hitmen went 0 for 4 on the power play while the Winterhawks scored twice on six chances with the man advantage.

Wheat Kings 5 Tigers 0

BRANDON – Rihards Bukarts had a pair of goals and Jordan Papirny made 32 saves as the Wheat Kings blanked Medicine Hat. Ivan Provorov, Morgan Klimchuk and Tyler Coulter also scored for Brandon (45-10-6).

Marek Langhamer started in net for the Tigers (37-21-3) but was pulled 5:46 into the third period after allowing four goals on 27 shots. Nick Schneider stopped 3-of-4 shots in 14:14 of relief.

Rebels 2 Oil Kings 1

EDMONTON – Rylan Toth made 40 saves- including 16 in the third period- as Red Deer edged the Oil Kings. Adam Musil and Haydn Fleury scored in the third period for the Rebels (31-20-9), who trailed 1-0 after 40 minutes of action.

Lane Bauer gave Edmonton (27-28-6) a brief lead in the second period. Tristan Jarry turned aside 21-of-23 shots in defeat.

Chiefs 3 Silvertips 1

SPOKANE, Wash. – Calder Brooks scored twice and assisted on another as the Chiefs ended a three-game slide with a win over Everett. Adam Helewka also scored for Spokane (28-27-4) and Garret Hughson made 23 saves to earn the victory.

Nikita Scherback found the back of the net for the Silvertips (36-18-7) while Austin Lots stopped 30-of-32 shots.

Rockets 4 Royals 2

KELOWNA, B.C. – Michael Herringer made 25 saves and the Rockets scored four unanswered goals to erase a two-goal deficit en route to defeating Victoria. Madison Bowey, Chance Briad, Tyson Baillie and Leon Draisaitl scored for Kelowna (47-10-4), which trailed 2-0 after a period of play.

Greg Chase and Austin Carroll supplied the offence for the Royals (33-24-4). Justin Paulic kicked out 25-of-29 shots in a losing effort.
