TORONTO – Toronto will finally get the ice storm relief funds promised by Queen’s Park.

According to a report in the Toronto Star, the province has offered $22.5 million to Toronto in “interim payments” to help cover the cost of cleaning up the damage caused by the 2013 ice storm.

Toronto had originally requested $64.2 million.

Officials say the remaining funding will be issued once the claims review is complete and eligible costs are verified.

The ice storm caused widespread damage and blackouts across southern, western and eastern Ontario. At the peak of the storm, over 800,000 hydro customers were without power.

Toronto is one of 49 municipalities across the province to receive the funding, which is allocated for repairs to damage caused by the ice storm.
