EDMONTON – Campers heading to provincial parks this year will be digging a little deeper in their pockets, with the price of campsite fees jumping up by $3 per night.
Those using a power site will pay an extra $1 per night to help offset increased utility costs.
The increase includes group campsites, which will now see the base rate of a $50 group campsite increase to $50-$150 per night and be in place in 2016.
Campers who want to have sewage disposal while camping will pay between $3 and $10, instead of the previous $3 flat fee. Alberta Parks is introducing an optional on-site, pump-out service at a cost of up to $25 at some campgrounds.
The spike in fees will bring in an additional $2 million, according to the province, which will be used to maintain the 245 provincial campgrounds across Alberta.
The new fees will be added to the Reserve.AlbertaParks.ca registration system, which will open for bookings Feb. 17. For more details, read the news release.
