REGINA – The mayor focused on Regina’s culture and arts community in his state of the city address Wednesday afternoon.

“Regina has over 1000 cultural landmarks so think about that for a moment: the Art galleries we have, the music venues, the creative spaces, the art incubators are everywhere,” he said.

The address is hosted every year by the Kiwanis Club.

Mayor Michael Fougere also spoke about rail yard development planning and a new vibrancy to Regina’s downtown.  He said the stadium, which is 22 percent complete, is the first step. Then the city will start work on a pedestrian walkway from the Warehouse District to downtown.

“Council will spur that investment by some investments in the public infrastructure, like the pedway across Saskatchewan Drive and we’re hoping to begin that process in 2016-17. It’s all in pace with what the private sector wants to do,” said Fougere.
