It was against the worst team in the NHL – but after 11 days, the Canucks will take the win.

In his first game against his longtime former team, Ryan Miller made 20 saves as the Vancouver Canucks defeated the Buffalo Sabres 5-2.

The game began inauspiciously, with Henrik Sedin leaving the game with an injury and Chris Stewart scoring for the Sabres and the four-minute mark of the first period.

But Vancouver responded with three goals in a five minute span. Bo Horvat scored his fourth of the year with 24 seconds left in the first period, and Yannick Weber and Nick Bonino followed with goals at 1:43 and 4:19 respectively in the second period.

Vancouver’s last win came on January 19 against the Florida Panthers and losses to the Tampa Bay Lightning and Anaheim Ducks were separated by the all-star break.

The win moves Vancouver to 27-17-3, third in the Pacific Division, while Buffalo stays in last in the Atlantic Division at 14-33-3.
