WINNIPEG – After a five-game winning streak, the Winnipeg Jets are now on a two game losing skid. The team has given up 10 goals in the first two games back from the all-star break and the top line is absent from the scoresheet.

“We went a long stretch this year of not scoring a whole lot of goals and you know we won a lot of games,” said Jets forward Blake Wheeler. “It’s just the last couple of games have just gotten away from us for a bit we just got to get back to it.”

One of the team’s strengths has been their defensive foundation which stayed strong despite a battered blue line the last couple of months

“When we had success it was all about the way we play defensively and we kind of got away from it a little bit you know turning the puck over and giving the odd man rushes,” said Jets forward Mathieu Perreault, who scored the team’s only goals in their 5-2 loss to the Flyers Thursday.

“It’s mostly that finding that balance between you want to play a hard gap puck pressure game, but we can’t have everybody moving in the same direction when we don’t have the puck,” said head coach Paul Maurice.

The Jets haven’t lost more than two in a row since the start of the season in October when they dropped four straight games.

With 32 games left in the regular season, the team is still sitting in a wild card spot. The Jets play the Stars at home Saturday night.
