TORONTO – A woman was struck and killed by a vehicle in Scarborough Wednesday morning.
Toronto Traffic Services say the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The incident happened just after 6 a.m. at the intersection of Birchmount and Ellesmere.
Toronto EMS say the victim was a woman in her 30s.
“We don’t know if she was attempting to cross the roadway or for what reason she was on the roadway,” said Cst. Clint Stibbe of Traffic Services. “There’s no proper crossing in this area except for the intersection just south of this location.”
Police say bystanders tried to help the woman but attempts to save her life were unsuccessful.
“Some of the bystanders were attempting to render CPR to the woman who was struck, however those life saving measures including the ones by the parademics were unsuccessful,” said Cst. Stibbe.
The driver in the incident remained at the scene.
Police are asking anyone who was in the area at the time to come forward.
