VERNON – Monday was a celebration of sorts for a Vernon charity: after almost two months making do in other locations, the Upper Room Mission (URM) was able to serve lunch in their dining room for the first time since early December.
Significant water damage to their building in December forced the charity out of their dining room. First the URM was serving meals out in their parking lot in sub zero temperatures then they found a temporary location at The People Place across the street.
“The other space was great but this is our home. This is where our clients feel most comfortable,” says URM spokesperson Lisa Anderson.
The charity is hoping to see those clients that stayed away from the smaller temporary space return.
There is still some restoration work to finish on the second floor. However, the charity is predicting the whole building will be ready for use by the end of the week.
