Woman convicted of plotting to kill parents faces sentencing

NEWMARKET, Ont- Jennifer Pan, convicted of murder after hatching to have her parents killed in December, will be sentenced Friday.

Before a judge hands down the sentence, she will hear impact statements from her very own family members as they speak about Pan’s mother and father.

She was found guilty of both first-degree murder and attempted murder in the attack, disguised as a violent home invasion.

Pan was the one to call 911 from the family’s Markham home on Nov. 8, 2010, the night her mother was killed.

Her father, 60-year-old Hann Pan, was shot in the face but survived the attack.

Her motive, prosecutors say, was because they disapproved of her boyfriend.

The Crown said she asked Daniel Wong, her on-again, off-again boyfriend, to find hitmen she could hire to kill her parents.

Her co-accused, Lenford Crawford, David Mylvaganam and Wong, were also convicted of first-degree murder and attempted murder. They also face sentencing today.

In Canada, a murder conviction carries an automatic life sentence with no chance of parole for 25 years.

Pan’s lawyer told reporters last month he planned to appeal the verdict.
